AXXESS Column Introduction

The AXXESS column manages equipment and supplies at bedside where caregivers need it. The see-through design of its open architecture helps reduce the congestion of tubing, hoses, wires and equipment around the patient’s head. The AXXESS column represents a new application of the proven Lifespan rail system using unique, shaped rails that position equipment within the unit’s open center. The result is dramatically improved access and organization. The slim pedestal allows wheeled equipment, such as IV poles, to be freely moved in and out of position. The AXXESS column has been designed to enhance the critical care environment through ergonomic placement of essential services, integral lighting, and a simple, functional but soft appearance scheme. The care staff can set up a work space in any way – based on personal preference, unit protocol, or institutional norms.

The AXXESS column is typically used in the most intensive care environments, such as CCUs and ICUs. One column can serve a single patient, or can be shared, with clear demarcation, between two patients with each side facing an individual treatment area. In lower acuity areas, a single column may also serve four beds with each corner designated to one patient. By inserting an optional center partition, a single AXXESS column can serve two incubators, providing welcome privacy without obstructing work flow.

The AXXESS column is pedestal-mounted on the floor near the head of a patient. During installation, before being fixed in place, the column can be rotated on its pedestal to allow staff to determine the final, most desirable position relative to the patient. All utility lines are fed through the ceiling. No expensive, structural ceiling supports are necessary.
